The challenge of climate change and nature loss: Thinking global, acting local for biodiversity and green spaces

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Investors in the Environment (iiE) Awards, and to celebrate the occasion we are launching a full programme of free online events for you and your team to join.

We are planning a week-long series of webinars to engage organisations with different environmental initiatives to inspire, influence and share best practice. The programme will culminate in the iiE Awards on International Clean Air Day (Thursday 8th October).

Join us on Wednesday 7th October, at 10am, for a free online event called ‘The challenge of climate change and nature loss: Thinking global, acting local for biodiversity and green spaces’.

Hear from Dr Peter Brotherton, Director of Science and Climate Change at Natural England, the government’s official advisor on nature conservation in England. His talk will present the latest evidence of how our climate and the natural world are changing, taking a global and UK view. It will also consider why these changes matter and how we might respond, taking account of new environmental policies and opportunities.

Peter has worked at the interface between conservation science, practice and policy for over 20 years. He was lead adviser to the Government on the England Biodiversity Strategy and an author of the influential ‘Making Space for Nature’ report. Before joining Natural England, Peter was an academic, and studied for his degree and PhD at Cambridge University.

Peter will be joined by speaker Sean McCormack, who is incredibly passionate about community and nature. Growing up in Ireland, Sean spent his childhood obsessed by birds, bugs and plants – a self-confessed nature nerd.

Dreaming of being a vet, Sean completed a degree in Animal Science in Essex followed by Veterinary Medicine in Dublin. Once qualified, Sean spent six years working in various domestic and exotic pet practices and saw him move to Ealing. Sean combines his passion and extensive knowledge of the natural world to lead Ealing Wildlife Group – guiding through education and conservation. He has links with many conservation organisations across the UK which enables Ealing to play a part in wider, national studies and programmes.

Sean has a podcast, ‘Sean’s Wild Life’. In it, he talks with guests to explore biodiversity, conservation, environment and our connections with nature. He is also planning a farm rewilding project of his own for the future, as an effort to reconnect people with nature, the biodiversity and climate crisis, and where our food comes from.
