Winner of Best Water Reduction- iiE Awards 2020

Peterborough Regional College (PRC) is a further and higher education college offering a wide range of courses. PRC is committed to delivering exceptional services to both their students and the wider Peterborough community.

Peterborough Regional College maintains a solid procedure when tracking their environmental performance. By reviewing their water use weekly, PRC has been able to detect leaks or certain areas for development. Upgrades to their existing toilet block have also ensured water resource efficiency – contributing significantly towards reducing their annual water bill and equating to approximately 1584 m3 of water saved. Overall, PRC has exceptional water consumption standards, successfully smashing their water usage target by an overwhelming 83%.

The new Changing Behaviours Package has also been rolled out to all staff and is embedded within their induction process. This standardises the procedure and creates transparency between new and old staff across departments.  Additional projects are directly improving resource efficiency and engaging students, including activities to improve communities and encourage health and wellbeing. Some examples include upgrading the heating systems, windows, and front of the house to significantly reduce gas consumption.

Alongside this, PRC carry out litter picking days with students and contribute to developing the Newark Farm project. They have furthermore built a Wellbeing Garden that’s open to the public, as well as staff and students, to enjoy the outdoors.
