Environmental Strategies Ltd achieves Green with iiE

The iiE team are pleased to announce that Environmental Strategies Ltd has been awarded Green level Investors in the Environment accreditation for their environmental hard work and achievements.

Environmental Strategies (ESL), based near Hull, were the first business to join the scheme in Yorkshire and began working through the accreditation process in April 2012.  Initially achieving the Silver award after only a few months, ESL decided to push themselves that little bit further to achieve the top level Green award.

A business that provides environmental consultancy, ESL already had a green approach, and they decided that accreditation with Investors in the Environment (iiE) would enable them to demonstrate their green credentials to their customers.

“We were keen to be involved in the Investors in the Environment scheme as the ISO14001 standard is currently not appropriate for our micro business and we were looking for a scheme which will enable us to demonstrate our own green credentials and add value as the company grows and develops. We also want to help spread the message that what is good for the environment is ultimately good for business.”

How did we help?

There are 3 levels of accreditation available with iiE – Bronze, Silver and Green. Each of the levels involves working through 5 simple steps and the overall focus is on improved resource efficiency.

For Green level accreditation businesses must achieve a minimum 2% improvement in resource efficiency for their key resources, which in the case of ESL were gas, electric, paper and printer cartridges as well as CO2 emissions resulting from business travel.

As well as the 5 step process, ESL implemented a Recycling System to reduce waste to land fill, they put a Travel Plan in place to reduce pollution from travel as well as changing to FSC certified paper, Fair Trade or Rainforest Alliance tea and coffee and milk produced by British farmers.  They now also offer free energy reviews to other businesses, helping other organisations in the region reduce their carbon footprint too.

ESL are a professional environmental consultancy, helping companies develop, audit and achieve ISO14001 certification for their Environmental Management System (EMS) as well as providing energy and carbon management services. ESL also provides a comprehensive thermal imaging service, to help businesses identify heat loss issues, including those that arise in manufacturing processes.
