Are you ready for the Zero Waste Week Challenge?

Are you ready for iiE Zero Waste Week?

iiE Zero Waste Week (ZWW), 18th -22nd November, is a great opportunity for businesses, community groups and individuals to save money, be promoted for their achievements and help to reduce waste being sent to landfill.

WRAP states that “around 600 million tonnes of products and materials enter the UK economy each year … only 115 million tonnes of this gets recycled.” So what is happening to the remaining products and materials? These figures show that currently only 19% is recycled each year! This is something we can change. We have the facilities and technology, so let’s start thinking about what we are doing and make the small changes that will make a huge difference.

To make this easy, iiE Yorkshire and Humber have partnered with Biffa Waste Ltd to create a free 'how-to' guide to waste reduction with hints and tips for a successful waste reduction week. Biffa is supporting companies in the region to reduce waste and recycle more, saving money whilst also helping the environment.  “Zero Waste Week is the perfect opportunity to take another look at your business waste – in many cases it’s possible to drastically cut your waste costs, and even generate a revenue stream from waste you currently throw away,” explains Biffa’s Regional General Manager Anthony Holley.

ZWW is not necessarily about going zero, its about reducing waste to landfill and going as close to zero as possible. Even if you are only able to make some small changes in the business, small changes can make a big difference! You will also have the opportunity to join us at one of many waste events over the course of the week, to learn about best practice & network with other likeminded businesses.

Register your interest in taking part in the Zero Waste Week challenge and iiE will provide you with a free ‘how to’ guide plus loads of ideas on how your business can work towards becoming Zero Waste for this particular week and in the future.
