There are 3 different Investors in the Environment levels that your organisation can work towards and get accredited for. This means there is something appropriate to what you are able to achieve and how far you wish to improve your environmental performance, from taking your first simple green steps to being a green leader for your local area.
Three official accreditation levels
The Investors in the Environment accreditation is the official green stamp of approval that proves your business is taking steps to reduce its impact on the environment. The step-by-step approach within each accreditation level allows your business to set achievable targets and establish a pathway of continual improvement. The three levels to chose from are:
Bronze - from £150 +VAT. For a basic level of accreditation, all your business has to do is identify targets for improved efficiencies for your resources (such as energy, water and raw materials), keep resource readings quarterly and report more detailed progress annually. It is also a requirement to have an environmental policy in place: this is something we can help with if you don’t already have a policy.
Silver - from £200 +VAT. This level is for a business that is looking at their environmental impacts to achieve even higher cost savings. Your commitment is the same as Bronze level, with the additional requirements of showing actual targets achieved within the workplace, adopting a travel plan plus two other actions that work best for you.
Green - from £300 +VAT. This is the highest achievable level within IiE and is equivalent to BS8555 level 1. As part of the process an audit will be undertaken by IiE and your business will need to demonstrate a minimum 2% improvement in resource efficiency over an agreed baseline figure. Other essential criteria include having a recycling system in place, adopting a travel plan, taking a carbon footprint test and setting targets for carbon reduction, plus choosing three additional actions that work best for you.
No other accreditation level that we know of shows that you have to prove a reduction in your resources! And yet reducing your impact where possible should be important and congratulated when acheived.
